Dear Paul:
I do not think there was much more resemblance between the early ideas for
LISP and IPL than is discussed in the present drafts of my paper. At least
I couldn't think of any.
I called Roland Silver to ask about his relation to the garbage collector and
he said that he make a compacting garbage collector for the LISP he
implemented on STRETCH some years later, but that he had not connected with
the original garbage collector. He reminded me that I had asked him the same
question a year previously.
I will say more about M-expressions.
I still do not remember any competition with Doug Ross's group in programming
the Wang algorithm.
Finally, not enough happened with the advice taker at that time to justify saying more about
it than the paper already does.
Thanks again for writing.
